Penelope

I drew the bust of Penelope from the life size statue  by the American sculptor Franklin Simmons.  The story of Penelope as the faithful wife of Oydsseus is reflected in her patient face.  She kept her eyes downcast to avoid other suitors during her husband's absence.

The actual work  sits on a sculpted chair at the de Young Museum, SF.  There is another one at the Detroit Institute of Arts.

I used a subtractive method and Russian sauce ground and then accented with charcoal and pastel.
